Vir Bahadur Singh : Gorakhpur
Veer Bahadur Singh was born in Gorakhpur. He participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942. The background of the Singh family was of a Thakur family. Veer Bahadur Singh was Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from September 24, 1985 to June 25, 1988. In 1988, Rajiv Gandhi appointed him the Union Communications Minister. He was a close associate of late Om Prakash Pandey and Shri Brij Bhushan Singh. Veer Bahadur Singh has handed over his political activities to Eastern Uttar Pradesh. He was a very active young leader in the belt of Allahabad University, Banaras Hindu University and Purvanchal University. Political activities at the grassroots that is, "Student leadership at the university level" touched their zenith under the leadership of Om Prakash Pandey. The root cause for his political success was populist measures for the oppression of people of Om Prakash and to make rapid decision-making. In the beginning of 1988, due to an unknown reason, the sudden death of Om Prakash Pandey has made the students control the political water in this area. After his death in the form of Mr Brij Bhushan Singh, all the student associations removed them, who were too small to raise this responsibility, so they withdrew from political careers. That proved to be crucial to Veer Bahadur Singh and his political career as he lost majority in the state assembly in June 1988.
